Due to the close relationship that dogs have had with humans for thousands of years, and the intelligence of dogs in general, it is quite likely that dog training has existed for as long as dogs and humans have interacted.

Dogs are extremely valuable, and in addition to being pets or companions they have been used to carry out various jobs throughout history, and continue to be used in this capacity today. It must be emphasized that dog training varies widely from person to person, and from one culture to another. Dog training can range from simple commands that dogs are given to entertain owners or their guests, to critical industries where a dog must be trained in order to assist its owner in carrying out an important goal.

Dogs are extremely intelligent animals, and the number of methods available for training them are too numerous to mention in just this one article. However, the various types of dog training can be broken down into a number of different categories. Some of these training activities include teaching the dog simple obedience commands, training the dog how to perform tricks, training the dog to rescue people, teaching dogs how to guide the blind, and teaching the dog how to assist in hunting.

Because dogs naturally enjoy being in groups, multiple dogs can be trained to work together to carry out a specific objective. Perhaps the best known example of this is sled dogs. In dog training, the handler is the person who is working with the dog. Dog training is important because when dogs live around humans, they are expected to act and behave in a certain manner. The dog has to be pleasant for both the owner and people close to the owner to be around. An owner who trains his or her dog shows that they truly care for the dog, because without being trained properly, a dog can be a danger to itself of others.

While laws are frequently being made against the ownership of breeds that are consider to be dangerous, in reality, much of these problems could be avoided if owners simply trained and handled their dogs in the right manner. A dog will not become trained by itself, and it is up to the owner to give the dog this training. One of the biggest challenges in dog training is connecting to the dog in a way the dog understands. However, the best way to train a dog in a humane manner is to reward the dog when it does the right thing, and either ignore the dog when it does the wrong thing, or show the dog the correct way of doing it.

When you train the dog, you must be patient. You must also train it in a place where there is no distractions. The dog will not learn if its attention is on something other than you want what you're trying to show it. You must have the dog's full attention. Some of the most basic dog commands are Stay, Sit, Recall, and Down.

It's real simple. If you want an dog to behave in a manner that you like. Make him part of your family. Many people when they first get that brand new shiny puppy, spend tons of time with him. And that's very nice. But then the novelty of the new toy wears off, then look out. Here comes the problems.

Dog owners love to say, it came out of nowhere. For no reason at all. He never did anything like that before. If it wasn't so sad, you would have to laugh.

Lets apply that to your children.
That would be the equivalent of you saying every year or so, "Wow, Johnny never did that before".

Then your real trouble is gonna start.
This means, good luck finding a dog trainer that actually has a clue. To many of today's dog professionals just love to tell you, that you have an alpha dog and he's trying to dominate you.

Let me try and explain what an pack leader, boss or alpha dog actually is like.
They are cool, laid back, confident. They DO NOT get excited, and act like a maniac when you have company over.
They DO NOT bark, bite, growl or carry on when they see something new.

Did you ever see that movie , Get Shorty, the John Travolta character, Chili Palmer, That's an alpha. They don't get to excited about anything.
