I heard there was a push to make it illegal for dog owners to have their pets in the front seat, especially in the driver's lap. Where this law might be a backlash for anti-cellphone legislation, I am surprised there haven't been laws against it sooner. Are such laws on the books in your city? |

I don't think there is one here yet or even one being talked about here. I do know you can buy seat belts for animals now,I seen it in a book.

I know of an accident that was caused by this.
LIttle lap dog on the driver's lap, got scared and jumped on driver's face.
Fatal accident.
This was when I lived back in Europe.
I am not aware of any law that would prohibit drivers from doing this.
There should be a law in my opinion.

I've never had a dog which I could carry on my lap while driving. I had a Rottweiler. That's good, though. Driving can get tricky when you have a dog on your lap. The whole cell phone issue is a good thing too. I know it can happen. It happened to me. Sometimes, when driving, i don't eve turn on the radio. i agree with the law.

we take our basset everywhere. What we have done is if someone is alone with him he rides in the back> We just always oput him back teher with his blanket and he stays there. When theer is a passenger he rides on their lap.
I did however see a great pet seatbelt. And some states and pet insurance polices require that you have that option.
I cant stand it when pets ride in open bed trucks. Thats where the tailgate is down. I am always afraid they will jump out.
