My old lady is getting on and she is not surprisingly struggling a little. The vet recommended we try an old age formula, that is lower in protein so it is easier on her kidneys, but she's not keen on the Purina version.

Can you recommend others, that might taste better?

You could try Science Diet. It does not sound yummy and sugar coated, but thank god dogs can't read right? I have found this kept my older Dalmatian in better health in the declining years. Try a small bag at first, so if he doesn't like it then you didn't waste to much money.

Science Diet is supposed to excellent, and well tolerated. YOu might have to "spice it up" with a dab of her usual food mixed in, though.

Iams might be another option.

I would also recommend Science Diet.
See if you can get maybe a small free sample on their website.
I don't know if they are offering at this time but sometimes they do.

Let us know what happens and which way you go.

our bassetliked science diet until we tried him on teh beige back all natural stuff. now that he gobbles up.
we also found that for him oatmeal fills tummya nd buffers so much and acts as fiber. We also feed him raw hamburger and baked chicken boiled chciken as well.
Eukaneuba premium performance our basset gobbles up and then some.
And Natures Recipe he loves with a bowl of soup! Pet smart has teh details on teh dry food and you can usually get some great cioupons and sample sizes too at the companies websites.

Like I said Science diet is a great food and has bags for your dog which is determined by Size/Breed/Dietary needs. If he taste is not what he is looking for, you could try adding water to the dry food or using tuna juice. Also a half of Science Diet and soft canned for will work. One thing you have to do is make sure the bag you buy is right for your dog. Then figure out(if he doesn't like the taste) what will add flavor to his liking but is still good for him. Even though dogs eat grass and poop, there systems are allot more sensitive then ours and the wrong food can mess them up.

Well, my cat likes tuna, that's for sure. But since I am trying to reduce the protein in her diet, it might need to be really, a very small amount.

I like the idea of mixing her normal food in with the science diet and decreasing her own food gradually till she's only on the science mix.

Thanks for the suggestions, she's such a happy lass that I want to keep her healthy enough to stick around for a while longer.

One of my dogs a Shih-Tzu who is only 3 recently went 2 the vet wasn't walking well, has early signs of hip problems the Vet sold me Hills J/D and she loves the taste it helped her right away. I don't know if Hills makes a cat food but this one was by prescription only and I've never seen dog food work like this.

With my old cat that was 16 I would give her canned white meat chicken. Try different things.

Was this miracle food really expensive?
