My mother wants an African Grey Parrot because she saw one on t.v. I heard that these birds can live for over 20 years, and my mother is in her 70's. Isn't she a bit too old for this sort of commitment?

I am no expert on Parrots but I have to ask if she would be able to handle the attention it asks for and the needs it has. I need more taking care of then a Parakeet does.

African Greys are incredibly smart animated charachters. They outlive many owners, my mom has one and part of her vocabulary comes from her prior owner who passes away. I love that bird think she is almost human in ways. The only big problem is she likes to throw her seed every now and again when she gets a lil cranky. She is near the kitchen and the tile is easy to vacuum up.
