The APBT is the midsized breed of the three different dog breeds commonly referred to as pit bulls (see Staffordshire Bull Terrier (SBT) and American Staffordshire Terrier (AST)). Male pit bulls generally weigh 35 to 65 pounds (16 to 29 kg), whereas female pit bulls generally weigh 30 to 60 pounds (16 to 27 kg). The height of male and female pit bulls is generally proportional. The cot of the pit bull is single layered, short and stiff but glossy. Except for merle, any color is accepted and dogs may either be solid or have patches. Except for blue, all eye colors are accepted. Ears are semipricked or rose and can be cropped, although uncropped is generally preferred. The tail of the pit bull is short and tapered. The body of the pit bull is muscular and solidly built with a wide chest. The head of the pit bull is wedge shaped with some slight forehead wrinkles; the muzzle of the pit bull is medium sized with teeth forming a concise scissor bite. There is no specific preferences for nose color in the APBT standard. Twelve years is the life expectancy of this breed of dog.
When treated in a good environment the pit bull has a playful fun personality. Pit Bulls are very curious, sweet, intelligent and clownish. The pit bull is often noted for its affectionate, outgoing, eager to please disposition and their fondness for people. Pit bulls adore attention, often relishing in the company of humans. Pit Bulls are additionally very loyal to their masters, often giving their lives for their masters. When raised with a fair but fair hand a pit bull makes an exceptional family pet, however it should be noted that pit bulls can be stubborn and prone to display an aggression towards other dogs. The pit bull, should not be the first choice of dog for a new dog owner.
General Appearance
The APBT is a medium sized breed with a solid build, sleek, short coat and with appropriate muscling.
Color
Any color and pattern is acceptable.
Weight
Females: 30-50lbs
Males: 35-60lbs. Larger and smaller dogs are accepted as long as they are not disproportionately large or small (so those 100lb brutes would definitely be disproportionate and inadmissible to a UKC show ring).
Height
17-23 inches (for dogs and bitches).
Ears
Both cropped and uncropped are accepted by the UKC and ADBA.

i have 2 pitbulls and they are trying to tell me that they cant visit at my bf moms house bc they are a dangerous breed when they have been here for 7 months and they dont bother anyone isnt that a little load of crap

I think it's a load of crap too. I have 4 pits. And I too love the breed. People should give them a chance and stop listening to the crap people say about them. They are wonderful dogs if treating with love and respect. Mine are great. Best and smartest dogs around.
