These birds enjoy eating fruits and nuts, and they also enjoy eating various forms of leafy matter. The African Grey Parrot is broken down into two categories, and this is the Timneh African Grey Parrot and the Congo African Grey Parrot. While these two species are distinct, both share a greyish color. Each bird will have a rim of skin which surrounds the eyes, and it may range in color from white to a lighter grey.

Overall, the body may have an appearance that is scalloped. The one thing which makes these two species distinct from each other is the color of the tail. While the Timneh African Grey Parrot will have a maroon colored tail, the Congo African Grey parrot will have a tail that is red in color. Both birds are popular as pets, and the Congo African Grey Parrot is well known because of its ability to imitate spoken words. There are a number of restrictions which have been placed on this bird when it comes to their capture and sale. The African Grey Parrot is a large bird which can be as much as 12 inches.

These birds may be found in the Western part of Kenya, The Democratic Republic of Congo, Angola, and Tanzania. The Timneh African Grey parrot is much smaller than the Congo African Grey. They are darker in color, and they have an upper mandible which has the shape of a horn. This bird can be found in the Guinea forests, and it lives in African countries such as Sierra Leone, Mali, and Cote d'Ivoire. Another bird which is closely related to these two species is the Ghana African Grey. It can be found in the Principe Islands along with Fernando Poo.

When it comes to intelligence, the African Grey Parrot is very impressive. While animal intelligence in general is difficult to measure, Parrots are generally regarded as being the smartest birds in existence, and the African Grey Parrot is exceptional even in the Parrot family. These birds are known for their cognitive capabilities, and it is believed that these abilities resulted from the bird adapting to ground feeding in Africa. A large amount of research has been conducted on these birds, and the research conducted by Irene Pepperberg is seen as being the most extensive. Her research indicates that not only can these parrots mimick human speech, but the birds are also capable of associating human speech with the things that are connected to it.

However, it must be noted that this has been the subject of much debate. Scientists debate about how much these parrots know about the words they use. The one thing that no one debates is the fact that the African Grey Parrot is smarter than other birds. Because of this intelligence, the African Grey Parrot is sought after as a pet. It is considered to be an exotic animal, and all the evidence shows that it has been kept as a pet for thousands of years.
