Appearance

The American Bulldog is a strong and stock dog with plenty of power. The dog's coat is short and either white with patches or solid white. The Scott American Bulldog is smaller and has a longer muzzle than the Johnson American Bulldog. Most moder American Bulldogs, however are a combination of the Scott and Johnson types. Overall, American Bulldogs weight between 27 to 57 kg (60 to 125 lb) and are 52 to 70 cm (20 to 28 in) at the withers.

Temperament

American Bulldogs can make an exceptional family dog irregardless of their reputation. An American Bulldog raised in the right environment will typically be friendly, happy and an assertive dog. This dog will be very comfortable in the family setting and comfortable with strangers especially as they get to know the strangers in question. The American Bulldog is very fond of children, but the dog at times does not know its own strength and thus this dog as most, must be supervised with small children. The American Bulldog bonds very strongly with their family and master, but because of its strong innate guarding instincts and above average dominant attitude, the American Bulldogs need a fair but firm hand. American Bulldogs should be obedience trained and socialized as young puppies to expose the dogs to people, other dogs and animals. This will also ensure that the dogs can be easily contorlled around company and other animals as the dog gets larger and older.

No, they are 2 completely seperate breeds. A Pitbull is a member of the Terrier family. American Bulldogs are not. They do not typically show the level of aggression that is predominant in PB's. Not that all PB's are aggressive.
