Paint In Snow

The creation of American Paint Horse could be identified with the “Spanish Conquistador Hernando Cortes”. Sixteen war horses were brought by the Hernando Cortes to the new world. One of those sixteen horses was a white and sorrel pinto.
The descendants of this uncommon stallion grabbed the attention of the American Indians. The attraction of this breed was soon extended over the western plains. The hardy conformation as well as the flashy looks of American Paint Horses made them one of the most preferred escalates for many tribes in the plains. The breed of Paint horse prospered largely due to this favoritism.
An association named as Pinto Horse association was formed in the late 1950’s in order to aid the preservation of the spotted horse. Almost after a decade the “American Paint Stock Horse Association” was formed. But this time the association was formed to help preserve both stock as well as color horse types. In 1965, “American Paint Stock Horse Association” was merged with the “American Paint Quarter Horse Association” and a new association named “American Paint Horse Association” was founded.
The American Paint Horse is preferred as a general riding horse (western and English), for rodeo, ranch work, US racing, trail riding, jumping, showing, driving as well as dressage. The temperament of American Paint Horse can be considered as willing as well as intelligent. The characteristics of stock type conformation of American Paint Horse make them unusual from other breeds. The colors of American Paint Horse are generally white. Although, they may be also be found in wide number of other colors. The height of American Paint Horse can be up to 16hh.
In order to get qualified as American Paint Horse, the horses must be from Quarter Horse, Paint Horse breeding, or US Thoroughbred. There are generally two kinds of American Paint Horse: Overo with irregular scattered colored patches, with white bold markings on head and mostly with dark legs as well as Tobiano where the head is colored and with regular colored patches of round and oval shape.
However, some of the coat patterns reveal the combined features of both Overo and Tobiano and these are named as “Tovero”. Today, the American Paint Horse is one of the fastest growing breeds in the United States of America. The combination of conformation as well as color of American Paint Horses have made the “American Paint Horse Association”(APHA) the second largest registry of breed in regions of The United States of America. Whereas in order to identify the breed the colorful coat pattern is very essential. The American Paint Horse has a distinguishing stock horse type of body as well as stringent bloodline requirements.
