Bombay Cats and Kittens

Even though the cat originates in the United States, the British Bombay cats will be black colored cats that are members of the Asian group. These are Burmese like cats that have black coats and toes, but their eyes will generally be either green or copper. The American variation of the Bombay cat was first created in 1958, so this means that the cat is a relatively new breed. The American variation is a result of breeding a Burmese cat with an American Shorthair.

The goal of creating the American Bombay was to have a cat that was domesticated, but which had the look of a wild panther. The resulting cat was successful, and it indeed had the look of a black leopard. When it comes to appearance the Bombay cat is very muscular. At the same time, it has large amounts of agility. The head of these cats will have a round shape, and they will be wide with a tapering muzzle that is short. The eyes will have a circular shape, and they will be set widely. The ears of the Bombay cat are broad, and will be a bit rounded and moderate in size. The coat of this breed will be satiny and short, and it will be held tightly to the body.

Bombay cats do not need a lot of grooming, so this makes them valuable to owners who are looking for an exotic cat, but one that is also maintenance free. This breed was created in Louisville, Kentucky by Nikki Horner. The process of producing this breed was long and tedious, and a Grand Champion Burmese cat was used. After a certain period of time, she was able to produce a black cat that was distinct, and different from other breeds. By 1976, the Bombay cat had been given the CFA Championship award, and people are still allowed to cross American Shorthairs with Burmese cats.

When it comes to personality, Bombay cats have a number of characteristics which make them unique among cats. For one, they can be trained on a leash, which makes them similar to dogs, and they also enjoy playing games of fetch. In addition to this, the cat is quite intelligent, and will look for a number of ways to amuse itself. Bombay cats are very outgoing, and they are known for the affectionate they show to those that care for them. Other than color, both the American and British Bombay cats are quite similar. The Bombay has a body which is moderate in length, the it is quite sturdy. The coat is very shiny and smooth, and it will gleam when exposed to light.
