Bulldog Dogs and Puppies

Appearance

The Bulldog has a compact body and is a stocky breed with sturdy and short limbs. The Bulldogs shape leads to a somewhat strange gait. The dogs are also well known for their saggy skin on their face, short muzzles and creating what appears to be a frown that has become their trademark. The Bulldog may come in a wide variety of colors and will ideally have a short, smooth coat. In the United States, the average size for a mature male Bulldog is 50 pounds and for female Bulldogs the average weight is 40 pounds.

Temperament and Characteristics

The Bulldog is generally a friendly, docile and gregarious dog. The dog, however is known very well for being fiercely loyal. Breeders have worked very hard to attempt to breed out any aggression in the animal and therefore many are of now great temperament. Bulldogs do become very attached to family and home and rarely leave the home alone. Bulldogs get along very well with children and make a good companion. The Bulldog overall is suitable for apartments and houses due to their size and relative lack of energy. It should be noted that Bulldog puppies can be very destructive until they surpass maturity.
