Caique Parrot

While both these species are quite small in size, they have colors which are both vibrant and bright. These birds are native to the Amazon Basin of South America, but the Black headed Parrot can be found closer to the Amazon river. Both birds generally prefer to live in areas that are heavily forested, and they enjoy eating both fruits and seeds. The Caique Parrot enjoys resting in canopies, and they actually spend much of their time at the tops of trees. They will both forage and play in these areas.

The Caique Parrot is known for being very vocal, and they will often function in groups or pairs. These parrots are known for the number of different colors that they will display in their plumage, and some of them would include blue, green, yellow, white, and orange. Black may also be visible in the plumage of these birds. These parrots are distinct because they seem to dance, and they can do so to the sound of clapping. When these birds are in flight, they will make a specific flapping sound which is distinct. The Black Headed Caique Parrot will often have orange colored thighs and a white color on the belly.

The Pallid Caique Parrot will have yellow colored thighs, and it will also display a pale color. The belly will often display a yellowish color, and a white color may also be present as well. These birds have become a popular subject of aviculture, and the Black Headed species is the most common. These birds are famous due to their ability to bond with humans, and they are known for their playful nature. The birds like to play with toys, and because they don't have a large amount of stamina, they're good at flying. At most, the Caique Parrot can only fly for short distances.

The Caique Parrot also has a tendency to be clumsy. They are much better at jumping, climbing, or hopping to get around. These birds are excellent at climbing, and this is due to their strong legs and feet. These birds can be quiet if they're trained by their owners. They have a distinct calling sound which is similar to an alarm, and it is used in the wild to warn the members of their group who are outside of their eyesight. The Caique Parrot is very active, and they needs lots of time to play. While they get along with humans, they can be shy or aggressive around other parrots, so this is something that owners will want to keep in mind. They are also known for their fondness of chewing.

These parrots will often demand the attention of their owners, and they can sometimes cause their owners headaches when they get items which they're not allowed to play with. Unlike other species of parrots, the Caique is not as good at imitating human speech. They can learn to mimick words to a degree, and they will speak in a softer voice. They can also be taught to whistle.
