The Deerhoud is a Scottish dog breed that was specifically bred to track and hunt Red Deer. While the Deerhoud is a large dog, it is known for being quite friendly.

It needs large amounts of exercise in order to grow properly, as well as for its health. However, the Deerhoud is not a dog that needs tremendous amounts of space. The owner will want to give it the proper amount of exercise in an area that is fenced in. Deerhound pups are known for their destructiveness, and this often results from them not being given enough exercise. Deerhounds should never be exposed to a leash or small yards for long periods of time.

Despite this, an adult Deerhound may spend much of its time laying around or sleeping. Deerhounds can easily be stimulated by interacting with other Deerhounds. They are known for being quite docile while they're inside the home, and they are great for families with children. However, because of the size of the Deerhound, parents should always supervise their children when they're interacting with this breed. On average, the Deerhound has a lifespan that ranges from 9 to 11 years. There are a number of health conditions which are prevalent among this breed, and some of them are bloat, cardiomyopathy, and bone cancer.

No one knows for sure how long this breed has been around. All the evidence shows that it has existed for thousands of years. The Deerhound has a look which is very similar to the Greyhound, and some people believe that it is likely related to the Highland Greyhound. Because of the environment this dog was required to work in, it developed a coat that was larger and more rough. This breed specializes in hunting Red Deer, and it does so with a technique known as "coursing." In addition to the Highland Greyhound, the Deerhound is also related to the Irish Wolfhound.

Once the clan system disappeared from Scotland, the Deerhound was often owned by landowners who wanted to hunt. These dogs were also the favorite of the nobility. However, it is very likely that they were adapted by commoners as well. The Deerhound can hunt quickly and quietly, and it is proficient in hunting hares as well as the Red Deer. More often than not, two Deerhounds would be used in a hunting session, and one would focus on chasing the prey. In most cases, such chases didn't last for an extended period of time. While some Deerhounds have been successfully taught obedience courses, most have not be very successful.

The Deerhound also doesn't do well in most dog agility competitions, and the reason for this is because many of these competitions are designed for dogs which are smaller. However, when it comes to strength and raw hunting instinct, the Deerhound is one of the best dogs that a hunter can use. This dog falls under the Sighthound category of dog breeds, and it is the ideal dog for a family, or anyone who is an outdoors enthusiast.
