English Springer Spaniel Dogs and Puppies

Appearance

The English Springer Spaniel Dog is considered to be one of the greatest divergences in show lines and working breeds of dogs. Though registered together, the show bred dog and the field bred dog appear to be distinctly different breeds.

The field-bred dogs have coarser, shorter coats, than the longer, softer show bred dog coats. The field bred dogs ears are also less pendulous. The field bred dogs have a more feral look and a shorter tail and a stronger nose that increases trainability and hunting ability at the detriment of their appearance.

Male show dog English Springer Spaniels are 18–20 inches (45–50 cm) tall at the withers and the dogs weigh on average between 50 and 55 lb (23–25 kg) The female dogs of the breed are overall smaller, weighing 40 lb (18 kg). The coat of the English Springer Spaniel can be in three different color combinations. Black-and-white, or liver-and-white, or either of these distinct combinations with tan markings

Temperament

The English Springer is an exceptionally easy going and affectionate family dog. The dogs attentiveness and alertness make the Springer an ideal hunting companion. These dogs are eager to please and extremely intelligent, therefore they are very easy to add to a family environment. These dogs are great with children, however they do have medium to high energy levels. The dogs have a great amount of stamina and are very fast spaniels. Therefore they need plenty of exercise.

The dog overall should be accustomed to children and then can be very good with children, often acting predictably. The dog is excellent with other pets like ferrets and cats, however may not like the same sex of its own type. Because of their hunting instinct households with birds will not be good for the dog. It's always best to introduce all pets a young age.

The English Springer Spaniel dogs are very cheerful, energetic, playful and happy dogs. These dogs will bring back items because of their retriever instinct. The dogs have an excellent memory and with regular exercise and optimum mental stimulation these dogs will remain very healthy.
