French Bulldog Dogs and Puppies

Appearance

French Bulldogs are generally muscular, compact dogs with a snub nose, smooth coat and solid bone. The dog's overall physical appearance is recognized for its bat like ears that are rounded on the top and wide at the base. Their tails are not cropped however naturally short and straight or screwed but not curly. The average wight of a female French Bulldog is between 16 and 24 pounds and the average male dog weighs between 20 and 28 pounds.

Temperament

The French Bulldog is a gentle breed overall that generally has a nonchalant and pleasant demeanor. Similar to other companion type dog types, the French Bulldog requires frequent interaction with people. The dogs have very small exercise needs but do need at least the daily walk. Obesity will claim immobile French Bulldogs. Their calm nature makes them excellent for apartments or small homes and generally they are not the barking type. Because of their flat face, they cannot live outdoors due to the fact that they cannot control their body temperature effectively. These dogs are also top heavy and have trouble swimming.

French Bulldogs may play a little to rough for some smaller children, however careful monitoring should be sufficient. Also, small children should not pick the dogs up because they can be quite heavy. Because these dogs are of the terrier group, they do possess some of the aggression common in terriers.

Overall, French Bulldogs are good natured, amiable and playful dogs that make exceptional companions for children, single persons, families and the elderly.
