Giant Schnauzer Dogs and Puppies

Appearance

When hand stroked, the Giant Schnauzer has a wiry, harsh coat and soft, yet dense undercoat. The Giant Schnauzer is either salt and pepper (grey) or black. The dog weighs between 70 and 99 lb (32 to 45 kg). The Giant Schnauzer stands 23.5 to 27.5 in (59 to 70 cm) at the withers of the dog.

When traveling at a good paced trot, a healthy Giant Schnauzer will single track. Back remains firm, strong and flat.

Temperament

The Giant Schnauzer is a powerful, large, dominant dog which needs a consistently firm and friendly handler. Excessive harshness or force will only do harm to the dog.

Consistent and early training is mandatory as the Giant Schnauzer can be extremely willful and is a very intelligent dog. The dogs ability to understand a direction does not mean that the dog will always obey.

The Giant Schnauzer is a very loyal dog that will become extremely attached to their owner often following them around the house. The dog is also very kind natured, very similar to a retriever or labrador and this makes it a great choice for children.

The Giant Schnauzer needs plenty of exercise that should be at least twice every day. The dog is easily capable of making a 15 mile hike. Due to the physical abilities of this dog, the Giant Schnauzer makes an exceptional companion for hunters of foxes, raccoons and deer.
