
Greyhound Dogs generally are 71 to 76 cm (28 to 30 inches) tall at the withers in males and weigh somewhere around 27 to 40 kg (70 to 100 pounds). Female Greyhound Dogs tend to be smaller with shoulder heights around 68 to 71 cm (27 to 28 inches) and weights of the female Greyhound from less than 27 to 34 kg (60 to 75 pounds). The coat of the Greyhound consists of very short hair, which is very easy to upkeep. Their are about thirty recognized colors of the dog.
Greyhounds are not high energy dogs, despite being extremely fast. The dogs are sprinters, and although they enjoy running, the Greyhound does not require excessive exercise. Most Greyhounds are gentle, quiet animals and an adult dog will remain healthy and happy with a 20 to 30 minute walk each day.
Greyhounds were bred principally for coursing and sprinting. The modern racing of the Greyhound was introduced in Ireland and the United Kingdom in 1926 and in America in the 1920's.
Greyhounds have gentle nature and excellent temperaments, including retired Greyhounds, therefore they make excellent pets. They are overall gentle and even tempered, they are pack dogs that love human interaction. The are safe with children and small pets and animals.
