The Irish Wolfhound is generally accepted as the tallest dog breed in the world, however the Mastiff and Great Dane are of equal weight and sometimes heavier.
The Irish Wolfhound has very keen eyesight and a very brisk pace when moving. Their coat can be wheaten, grey, red, brindle, black, brown, pure white or fawn, however wheaten is generally the most common color of the dog. The dog has a muscular, long neck and a large box shaped head. the Irish Wolfhound has a similar body to a greyhound, however the body is much larger. On average, the dog can be up to 90 cm (34 inches) at the withers. This fact is a disadvantage to finding owners due to its large size. the average height of the dogs is 85 to 90 centimeters (33 to 36 inches) in male dogs, 5 to 10 centimeters (2 to 4 inches) less for female dogs. Standard weights of the dogs range from 76 kg (150 lb.) for male dogs and 55 kg (120lb.) for female dogs. Puppy Irish Wolfhounds may look fully grown at about 7 months however they are not considered to be mature until the age of 18-22 months.
