The Shih Tzu is a toy dog breed that was originated in China. The dog's name is spelled as follows: in Simplified Chinese: 狮子狗; Traditional Chinese: 獅子狗; Wade-Giles: Shih-tzu Kou; Pinyin: Shīzi Gǒu. The name of the dog literally "Lion Dog" and in English the name is pronounced /'ʃi·tsu/ ("shee tzoo").

Appearance

The name Shih Tzu is both plural and singular. The Shih Tzu characterized by its flowing, long double coat, sturdy build, lively, friendly attitude, and intelligence. In breeding of the Shih Tzu all coat colors are acceptable. The Shih Tzu's hair can be styled in either a long cut or a short summer cut. Although Shih Tzu owners generally do not find any fur on clothes or furniture, Shih Tzu's do shed small amounts of fur. The American Kennel Club (AKC) lists the details of the Shih Tzu as having a short snout, palm like tail, and large eyes. The ideal Shih Tzu is at a height of 9 to 10.5 inches at the withers. The Shit Tzu generally stands no less than 8 inches and not more than 11 inches tall. Whatever gender or sixe of the Shih Tzu, the dog is always compact and solid and carries good weight and substance for its size range.
