An energetic, active and resilient dog breed whose ancestors came from brutally harsh and cold environments among the Siberian Arctic, the Siberian Husky was imported to Alaska throughout the Nome Gold Rush and then quickly spread through Canada and the United States as a sled dog. The Siberian Husky has been a show dog and a family pet and is not much considered a sled dog as it has been replaced by crossbreeds.

The Alaskan Malamute shares many exterior similarities with the Siberian Husky as well as many other spitz breeds of dogs including the Samoyed. Siberian Huskies have a thick coat and come in a variety of patterns and colors with usually white legs and paws, tail tip and facial markings. The most common overall colors of the dog are grey and white, black and white, copper red and white or pure white. The dogs have a wide variety of facial markings. The Siberian Husky has a very wolf looking appearance, however is no closer o the wolf than any other breed of dog.
Overall there is a very large variation in the sizes of the Siberian Husky. The approximate size and weight of males is: Height: 21 to 23.5 inches (53.5 to 60 cm), Weight: 45 to 60 lb (20.5 to 28 kg) and females is: Height: 20 to 22 in. (50.5 to 56 cm), Weight: 35 to 50 lb (15.5 to 23 kg)>
Even though the Siberian Husky has a very wolf like exterior appearance, the dog is generally a very gentle and obedient dog. The dog is a working breed, and Siberian Huskies enjoy the ability to explore and run with great energy. This fact, combined with their striking wolf like appearance, has made the Husky a very popular show and family dog. Siberian Huskies can be very curious, affectionate and often welcome people, even strangers. This fact makes the Siberian Husky a very poor guard dog. A well rained and properly socialized Siberian Husky is very gentle and well with children.
